A new arms length management organisation could be established by Shropshire Council under new plans to manage its housing stock.
The council is seeking greater flexibility of housing budgets and stock in light of the Government move towards self-financing initiatives for councils from 2012.
Proposals to be discussed at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday 11th January include the set-up costs of £150,000 coming from the Housing Revenue Account.
A new stock vehicle could be then be established by April 2013 following a consultation and approval from tenants this year.
‘It’s important to stress that we are going to talk to our tenants before any decisions are made, and we need the support of tenants to move the plans forward in any case,’ Councillor Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing, said.
‘I hope they will see the benefits of the management board, which will give tenants more involvement in the service and will hopefully result in greater investment in their homes in the future.’
