More than 70 councillors have been recognised on an achievement awards shortlist.
There are 11 awards up for grabs in the Councillor Achievement Awards 2014, including leader of the year, the Age UK award and young councillor of the year.
The winners will be chosen by a group of judges made up from a selection of councillors and local government experts.
Dr Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of the Local Government Information Unit think tank, which is running the awards, said: ‘We have been hugely impressed by the entries we’ve received for the 2014 awards and think the shortlist reflects the fantastic quality of the nominations we received.
‘The sheer number and variety of examples of innovation and hard work stands as a testament to the outstanding efforts by many councillors across the country.’
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 25 February at Westminster City Council, at which communities secretary Eric Pickles will be the keynote speaker.
