Bracknell Forest Council has set out plans to improve SEND provision including funding for extra staff.
The plans, which were discussed at a meeting on 20 May, come after ‘systemic failures’ were identified in a CQC and Ofsted report.
Cllr Roy Bailey, cabinet member for children and young people, said: ‘We know that we have more work to do, and this is an improvement journey rather than an overnight process, but the new action plan, new governance processes and the possibility of new staff are all positive steps in the right direction.’
The plan includes £350,000 to provide additional staff to drive further improvements forward. This includes a new SEND improvement manager as well as new staff to support social care and SEND teams to focus primarily on improving the quality of educational, health and care plans.
A new board has been set up with an independent chair to challenge the improvement plans and hold strategic leaders to account.
In addition, a new group will be established to provide political oversight of the programme.
Cllr Bailey added the council was also setting up engagement sessions with parents, carers and young people with SEND to understand their concerns.
