Planning permission for Ricky Gervais’ new £5m home has been granted by the council following an agreement to contribute to the Carbon Offset Fund.
Proposals to build the new riverside property were reportedly rejected by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council in 2024, with issues raised about the development being located on a high-flood-risk zone, as well as noting concerns about its possible impact on climate change.
Mr Gervais’ plans for the site include the demolition of his current home in Marlow to build a larger development that includes a gym and tennis court.
Following the council’s refusal of the original proposals, Mr Gervais had submitted revised plans for the property, eliminating a side-wing and raising the ground floor by 3ft, while also committing to paying £10,584 to the council's Carbon Offset Fund.
Given that neighbours did not object to the proposals, planners have reportedly provided approval for the scheme, according to the Daily Mail.
However, a special licence from Natural England will need to be acquired before construction can begin, due to a colony of bats having been found in the loft of the property.
