Retired engineer Kevin Rees has been found guilty of using a homemade bomb to blow up an Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) camera in south-east London.
While no one was hurt, the explosion in Sidcup, which occurred in December 2023, damaged homes and vehicles up to 100 yards away, including a child’s bedroom and a Wendy house.
Mr Rees, 63, was also found guilty of three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon after homemade stun guns were found at his home.
Detective Superintendent James Derham, who leads local policing in the Bexley area, said: ‘It was miraculous that nobody was killed or seriously injured in the large explosion caused by Rees.
‘He showed a complete disregard for the welfare and safety of the people who live in, or were travelling through, the area at the time of the explosion – all because he was unhappy with the ULEZ scheme.’
