A Reform UK candidate who contested a tied local election result in Worcestershire has had her legal challenge dismissed by the High Court.
Elizabeth Williams, who stood in the Littletons ward during this year’s county council elections, lost out after the result was decided by the drawing of lots — a standard procedure used to break electoral ties.
Ms Williams later launched a legal challenge against the outcome, but Mr Justice Martin Spencer ruled that her claim was submitted too late. The judge also reportedly criticised errors in her legal documents, noting that some cited legal precedents appeared to have been ‘an invention, indeed a hallucination, of AI.’
The decision brings the dispute to an end, confirming the original tied result. Electoral officials said the random draw had been carried out in line with established election law and procedures.
