A record 4,733 local authority employees across the UK received total remuneration of more than £100,000 in 2024-25, according to a new analysis.
The figure represents an increase of 827 on the previous year — a rise of over 21% — and is the highest recorded since the list was first compiled in 2007, according to the TaxPayers' Alliance's (TPA).
A further 1,255 employees received at least £150,000, up 14.9%, while 366 received at least £200,000, a rise of 39.7%.
Now in its 20th edition, the TPA’s Town Hall Rich List list has tracked an eightfold increase in the number of council employees receiving six-figure remuneration since 2005-06.
