The planning system is holding back the building of major infrastructure projects, according to a new Government-commissioned report.
Over the past decade, the time taken for projects to be rubber-stamped has increased by 65% from two-and-a-half to more than four years.
A review by the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), ordered by chancellor Jeremy Hunt, detailed recommendations to almost halve the time taken to authorise projects.
