The mayor of the West Midlands has unveiled funding for a new housing scheme in Acocks Green, Birmingham, marking another step in his ‘Homes for Everyone’ priority.
The project will transform derelict industrial land into 32 social rent homes and 14 rent-to-buy properties, built by T R Partnership Homes for housing association Citizen.
Building on brownfield sites forms a key part of the Mayor’s Growth Plan, which aims to create 100,000 jobs, improve transport, and deliver 120,000 homes across the region.
Mayor Richard Parker has set a target of 2,000 social rent homes per year by 2028 to tackle long waiting lists and temporary accommodation challenges in the West Midlands.
Since taking office, WMCA funding has unlocked more than 1,600 affordable homes, including over 700 for social rent.
Mayor Parker said: ‘My Growth Plan sets out a road map to fire up our economy, build more affordable housing and support our SMEs so people can find good jobs close to home, housing that is affordable, and transport that just works.’
