A district judge has approved Jodie Marsh’s request to keep lemurs at her private animal sanctuary.
Ms Marsh applied for a wild animal licence in the hopes of welcoming eight ring-tailed lemurs into her farm, which Uttlesford District Council refused in 2024 due to noise concerns.
However, in the court ruling on Tuesday, District Judge Christopher Williams resolved that ‘the noise made by the lemurs is not a nuisance’, and ‘the decision by Uttlesford District Council was wrong’.
The judge highlighted that Ms Marsh ‘genuinely cares for the animals’ at her Fripps Farm sanctuary in Essex and ruled that the council should pay her costs of £19,641.
Outside of court, Ms Marsh reportedly said: ‘I’m just really sad that it has had to come to this. You know, it’s a complete waste of time and effort and everything else.’
