Local government leaders across Wales have paid tribute to Welsh Labour politician Hefin David MS who died suddenly on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old Mr David had been Member of the Senedd (MS) for Caerphilly since 2016.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer led the tributes, describing him as a ‘powerful voice for the people of Wales’.
The leader of the Welsh Local Government Association, Cllr Andrew Morgan, added: ‘At local and national levels, Hefin was a thoughtful and fearless politician whose loss will be keenly felt on the Senedd’s backbenches.
‘On behalf of the WLGA, I extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at this saddest of times.’
Cllr Sean Morgan, the leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council where Mr David was a councillor before entering the Senedd, said: ‘He will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege of calling him a friend, as well as those who worked with him throughout his political and professional career.
‘Our community has lost a true champion of the people and Welsh politics will be a poorer place without Hefin’s care, commitment and compassion.’
