Hackney Council has opened an investigation into food safety at Shoreditch House after a former chef alleged staff were pressured to serve out-of-date products.
The ex-employee said he raised concerns internally before contacting the council.
Soho House, which operates the private members' club, said it was investigating and apologised for what it called an ‘isolated food labelling incident’.
It said this was ‘not company policy’ and that it had taken immediate action, with its director of health and safety and an external independent consultant carrying out an investigation and audit.
The company said Shoreditch House has consistently held the top food hygiene rating of five, including at its most recent inspection in March, and performed strongly in an unannounced external audit last week.
It added that the former employee's contract was ended for reasons ‘entirely unrelated’ to food labelling.
A council spokesperson confirmed it had received a report and opened an investigation.
