Bradford is to benefit from the delivery of new electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.
The three-phase Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) project will see as many as 1000 charging points installed throughout the district, with roughly 104 stations to be supplied to mainly on-street locations during phase one.
The project’s first phase will be supported by an investment of £229,000 from Blink Charging, as well as £282,000 from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) and Bradford Council following a joint bid to the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).
With the aim to expand EV infrastructure across the district, the project will provide both on-street and off-street charging points to more than 230 locations, specifically supporting areas with reduced off-street parking in Bradford.
According to the council, the scheme will also see an increase in the number of accessible chargers available across the district.
Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: ‘Bradford Council are continuing to take steps forward to ensure that there is adequate cost-effective charging facilities in the network to accommodate the growth in electric vehicle ownership and use.’
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have Blink on board as we make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles.?
‘These new charge points closer to home will bring huge benefits to people without off-street parking and contribute to improving air quality in our communities.’
