New figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government reveal that English councils made a record £1.189bn in profit from on-street and off-street parking in 2024/25.
This is up from £1.043bn the previous year and £0.896bn before the pandemic. Total parking income reached £2.338bn, compared with £2.075bn last year and £1.758bn in 2019-20.
London councils accounted for £1.065bn of this income, generating £0.638bn in profit – 54% of the national surplus.
