East Devon District Council are set to discuss moving forward with the next phase of its ambitious £3.4m public toilet refurbishment programme.
The programme has already transformed four sites in Budleigh Salterton, Honiton, Exmouth, and Seaton, including three adult changing facilities with hoists and full-size beds, helping visitors with additional needs.
These upgrades have supported local communities and boosted the tourist economy, with over 40,000 visits so far.
Phase two will tackle the remaining 11 sites, with refurbishment costs estimated at over £3m. Completing the full programme could generate £200,000 annually to cover running costs, but inflation has created a funding gap of £1.085m.
Councillors will discuss plans at the Overview Committee meeting on 30 September 2025 and will decide whether to finish all upgrades, scale the programme to fit the budget, or pause until local government reorganisation.
