Political groups on Dudley Council have struck a deal which will see the Conservatives maintain control of the local authority.

The local elections left the council with 34 Conservative councillors, 34 Labour councillors, three Liberal Democrats, and one independent.

Conservative councillor Patrick Harley will continue as council leader, while Labour councillors will take over the mayoralty and most scrutiny committee chair roles.

Liberal Democrat councillor Ryan Priest will serve as vice-chair on the Overview and Scrutiny committee, under independent chair Cllr Shaun Keasey.

Cllr Harley described the arrangement as ‘unifying’ and said it would bring ‘stability’.
