City of Doncaster Council has approved a £57m borrowing measure to help reopen Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
The money will cover upfront costs needed to restart the airport, part of a £193m plan backed by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and local growth funds.
Voting 42–9 in favour, councillors gave the project the final green light, a decision welcomed by Mayor Ros Jones.
‘I would like to thank councillors who supported this critically important decision because without this funding support we would not be able to fully reopen Doncaster Sheffield Airport,’ she said.
‘Had we not secured this cross party support the programme would have had to stop, that was the enormity of the decision taken by Full Council.’
