Middlesborough Council has invested in strengthened cyber security systems.
The move comes as an attempt to protect the local authority against security breaches following a cyber attack last year.
To prepare for future threats, the council has subscribed to a year-long security service, priced at roughly £25,000, according to the BBC.
Ann-Marie Johnstone, head of governance, policy and information, said: ‘Our auditors and other auditors publish regular guidance on the nature of cyber security threats, as does the National Cyber Security Centre issues guidance and we absolutely do learn from those.’
Ms Johnstone explained that the approximated £10.4m attack on Redcar and Cleveland Council served as a lesson for the local authority and noted that a new ICT head of service has been designated at Middlesborough.
