Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council and New Forest District Council have formally adopted a strategy for tackling coastal erosion.
The Christchurch Bay and Harbour Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) Strategy sets out how coastal flood and erosion risks will be managed over the next 100 years.
The strategy, developed with the Environment Agency and technical consultants AECOM, covers the coastline from Hengistbury Head Long Groyne to Hurst Spit, including Christchurch Harbour.
It identifies that more than 3,500 properties are at risk from coastal flooding or erosion if no action is taken, with potential damages estimated at around £1bn over a century.
The strategy outlines proposed actions, timing and cost estimates, recommending adaptive pathways with multiple flexible options for different areas.
