Council workers sacked after being accused of sneaking off for shower sex

Two council workers have been sacked after being accused of hooking up for sex in the showers of a local authority building.

Manchester City Council launched an investigation into the pair – a man and woman – after a whistleblower complained about their behaviour, the Manchester Evening News understands.

While the probe found no evidence the duo had been meeting for sex, it triggered a wider investigation into their conduct.

It emerged they had been repeatedly leaving their desks to see each other during work hours and the pair were suspended.

Both employees have denied having met to have sex.

Following a disciplinary hearing, both employees were dismissed for gross misconduct.

A Manchester City Council spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that two employees have been dismissed following an internal investigation over gross misconduct.

‘To be clear, the employees were not dismissed as a result of allegations that have been suggested to the M.E.N.’

Why age alone shouldn’t define local government leadership

Age should never define leadership in local government, says Graeme McDonald, Managing Director of Solace. Instead, councils should invest in inclusive, skills-based development for officers and councillors to deliver effective public services.
