Gloucester City Council is relocating to new offices in the city centre in a move aimed at saving the local authority hundreds of thousands of pounds every year.
Following the end of its three-year lease, the council will leave Shire Hall to set up office above a council-owned shopping centre.
The city council anticipates that the relocation will bring in yearly savings of around £200,000, in part because it will no longer have to pay rent.
Cllr Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: ‘This move is the logical step for the council as it will not only bring significant savings, making better use of taxpayers’ money, but most importantly bring the council even further into the heart of the city.’
