‘Multiple repair failures’ over 18 months by Hammersmith & Fulham LBC left a family in ‘unsafe conditions,’ the Housing Ombudsman has ruled.
The Ombudsman found ‘severe maladministration’ in respect of the council’s response to requests to sort out ‘unsafe and rotting’ windows, a smoke detector, extractor fan, leaking roof and mould.
It ordered the council to pay the resident £1,050 compensation and undertake a senior management review of repairs communications.
The council said it ‘unconditionally’ accepted the Ombudsman’s decision and had made a ‘direct, sincere and unreserved apology’.
A council statement added: ‘We fully acknowledge that we failed to respond to and address the repairs needed in the family’s home and did not resolve them in a timely manner.’
