Manchester City Council leader selected as Labour's Greater Manchester mayoral candidate.
Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig has been selected as Labour's candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral election, triggered by Andy Burnham's election as MP for Makerfield.
Craig, who has led Manchester City Council since 2021, currently serves as Greater Manchester's deputy mayor for the economy, business and inclusive growth.
She pledged more money in people's pockets, a New High Streets Fund, a new generation of affordable and council homes, and an expanded Bee Network with frozen fares.
‘I’ll fight to make sure everyone shares in the success Greater Manchester is building,’ she said.
Other confirmed candidates include Geraldine Coggins, who is standing for the Green Party, and Marlon West, who is standing for Restore Britain.
The by-election for the Mayor of Greater Manchester will take place on Thursday 30 July 2026.
