Norfolk County Council has launched a Section 42 safeguarding enquiry into the care of a man arrested after a toddler was injured in a crocodile enclosure at a Cambridgeshire zoo.
The 30-year-old, from Norfolk, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has since been released on bail, following an incident last month in which a three-year-old boy was attacked by crocodiles.
The boy was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries. He remains in a stable condition.
Norfolk County Council, which had no connection to the zoo, the incident or any of the parties involved, confirmed that a Section 42 enquiry concerning the man is underway.
Such enquiries are triggered when a council has reasonable cause to suspect that an adult in its area may have care and support needs, and forms part of its wider safeguarding duties rather than any criminal investigation, which remains a matter for the police.
