A new website that enables residents to donate council tax savings to fund community services has been launched by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
The scheme will give residents the option to pay back savings made in council tax for investment in community services. Those donating also have a say in which services will benefit from the money.
Simon Dudley, cabinet member for finance at the council, said: ‘While four years of council tax cuts have been warmly welcomed, some residents have told us that they would prefer their savings to be used for further enhancement of local services – so we have come up with this simple solution to help them do just that.
‘As far as we know this is the first time a local authority has offered residents a ‘donate back’ option and it will be very interesting to see the response to such a different way of using council tax for the benefit of local people.’
