More young people across Wales will now benefit from reduced bus fares as the £1 fare pilot scheme expands to include all 5–15-year-olds.
Originally launched in September for 16–21-year-olds, the initiative has already seen strong uptake, with nearly 250,000 journeys made by young people using the discounted fares.
The extension aims to make public transport more accessible for children and families, supporting travel to school, leisure activities, and social opportunities.
The Welsh Government hopes the scheme will not only ease financial pressures on families but also promote greater use of public transport, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to tackling poverty.
Under the pilot, single fares cost £1, while a day ticket is available for £3 on participating bus services. The initiative will continue until August 2026.
