The Chancellor announced yesterday that £100m of extra funding will extend local apprenticeship services to all 14 mayoral strategic authorities.
The money, spread over two years, will let the authorities help provide the services across England from Spring 2027.
It doubles the number of areas matching young people with local businesses, following the funding announced in 2025 to pilot apprenticeship brokerage in some areas.
Led by mayors and shaped by local labour market needs, the programme is expected to deliver thousands more youth apprenticeships, particularly with small employers.
The Government said local leaders know their areas best and are ideally placed to create the apprenticeships their communities need.
