Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has called on the Chancellor to increase spending outside of London to counter support for Reform UK.
The Labour mayor argued that Government spending was too focused on the South East to the detriment of other parts of the country.
He claimed this contributed to the success of Reform UK in the recent local elections.
‘People want to see how this country starts to work better again, and work for everybody,’ he reportedly told the High Speed Rail Group’s annual conference.
Burnham plans to lead a delegation to Westminster to advocate for a northern extension of HS2.
