Chancellor Rachel Reeves has committed to a review of homelessness service funding.
It comes as Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government statistics revealed 130,890 households were in temporary accommodation at the end of March – an 11% increase on the year before.
Households owed a prevention duty due to being required to leave accommodation provided by the Home Office as asylum support also increased by 11% on 2023-24, to 3,820 households.
In one of her first speeches as local government minister today, Alison McGovern said Labour was ‘pulling every lever to get more homes built and to take action to tackle the scandal of homelessness'.
