Broxtowe Borough Council has been given a C3 grading by the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) after failing to meet required consumer standards.
The judgement followed an inspection that identified a number of weaknesses in the council’s housing service. Among the most significant findings were more than 3,000 overdue fire safety remedial actions, raising concerns about compliance with safety requirements across its housing stock.
The regulator also found that the council did not hold accurate or up-to-date information about tenants’ homes, including details of potential hazards. This limited its ability to assess risks and plan maintenance effectively.
In addition, inspectors concluded that the council lacked a full understanding of the diverse needs of its tenants and that improvements were needed in how it engages with residents.
A C3 grading indicates that the provider is not meeting consumer standards and must make significant improvements. The regulator said it would continue to monitor the council’s progress.
Cllr Vanessa Smith, portfolio holder for Housing, welcomed the report and said: ‘Our focus remains on delivering safe, high-quality homes for our residents, and we are committed to learning from the inspection and demonstrating progress.’
