Bridgend County Borough Council has halted to plans to freeze staff pay and will consider alternative ideas for achieving savings.
The council had proposed to move away from the terms and conditions of employment set by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. Trade unions said the move would leave benefits such as sickness and annual leave ‘vulnerable’.
The council has now agreed to consider other ideas put forward by the trade unions as part of its drive to save more than £36, over the next few years.
A joint statement from the council, Unison, Unite and GMB said: ‘These alternative ideas are currently being compiled and once submitted will be carefully analysed by the council in greater depth.’
