Audit of Northampton Town loan to be revealed by council

Northampton BC has announced that it will receive a report from auditors PriceWaterhouseCoopers into a loan to Northampton Town Football Club at a special meeting next Monday.

The internal audit looked at issues around the controversial loan to the club, and whether policies and procedures followed by the local authority were adequate.

It will also detail if the process followed by the borough council during the making and management of the loan was satisfactory.

PWC were also asked to consider potential lessons that could be learned from the loan deal – and what should be incorporated into the councils’ procedures going forward.

The report by the auditors will be available for all to view on the local authority’s website from Thursday next week.

Cllr Jonathan Nunn, leader of Northampton BC, said: 'One of my first acts when I recently became leader was to set a date for this report to be published.

'The loan we made to NTFC very clearly went wrong, and I am determined that we should hear what the auditors have to say as soon as possible so that we can ensure that the lessons are learned.'

The meeting on Monday will take place at the council’s Guildhall at 6pm.
