The new home secretary Shabana Mahmood is expected to announce plans to move asylum seekers from hotels into military barracks.

The reported move will follow Epping Forest DC’s legal challenge against the use of The Bell Hotel for asylum accommodation.

It also comes amid protests outside hotels used to house asylum seekers and increasing criticism of the Government’s handling of the small boats crisis.
