Aberdeen City Council has initiated a consultation inviting tenants to provide feedback on proposed rent changes for the 2026/27 period.
The consultation proposes a 12% rent increase, aimed at sustaining housing services, including repairs, upgrades, and new developments.
Additionally, the council is considering extending the annual rent cycle from 48 to 52 weeks, potentially lowering weekly rent payments and aligning better with benefits schedules.
Vice-Convener of the Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee, Cllr Dell Henrickson, emphasized the importance of tenant input, stating, ‘By listening to our tenants, we can ensure that their opinions remain at the centre of all decisions, especially as we face some difficult choices.’
The consultation is open until 7 November 2025, with participants entered into a prize draw for one of six £50 Aberdeen Gift Cards.
The results will be presented to councillors at the Housing Revenue Account budget meeting on 3 December 2025. Any new rent would commence in April 2026.
