The winners of the 2020 Street Design Awards

To end the year on a positive note, we are delighted to announce the winners of the 2020 Street Design Awards.

Divided into five categories - Active Travel, Children’s Play, Pedestrian Environment, Public Lighting and Urban Green Space - the awards celebrate innovation and best practice in street design across the UK.

The winning schemes are:

Active Travel

Winner: Sauchiehall Street Avenue, Glasgow City Council

Children's Play

Winner: Astey’s Row Playground, Islington LBC

Runner-Up: Bridgefield Park, Ashford Borough Council

Highly Commended: Market Place, Stevenage Borough Council

Special Judges Award: Manor Rise, Kirklees Council

Pedestrian Environment

Winner: Charter Square, Sheffield City Council

Runner-up: The Waterfront, Hartlepool Borough Council

Public Lighting

Winner: Spinnaker Tower Lighting, Portsmouth City Council

Highly Commended: Tower Esplanade, East Lindsey District Council

Highly Commended: Swaffham Buttercross & Market Place, Swaffham Town Council

Urban Green Space

Winner: Enfield Town Park Wetlands, Enfield Council

Highly Commended: The Sir Nicholas Winton Memorial Garden, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and Project Centre

Commended: Eastcote Rain Gardens, the London Borough of Hillingdon and Project Centre

We would like to say a special thank you to our judges - Play England, the Landscape Institute and the Institution of Lighting Professionals, as well as our sister magazine Highways.

The full details of the winning schemes, including before and after photos, will be revealed in a special e-book early next year.
