The number of Ukrainian families in need of homelessness support from councils has almost doubled in less than a month.

According to the latest Government information, the figure reached 1,040 households by 1 July compared to 660 on 3 June.

Settled accommodation has been offered to 125 households while 480 Ukrainians have been placed in temporary housing.

Around 300 of the households at risk of homelessness arrived through the Homes for Ukraine scheme and can potentially be rematched with other sponsors.

However, authorities such as Cornwall Council and North Kesteven DC have had to issue pleas for more sponsors to come forward to meet demand for both re-matching and new arrivals.

The MJ understands councils have directly raised the pressures the Ukrainian scheme was putting on their homelessness services in a recent meeting with refugees minister Lord Harrington.
