The vast majority of Scots believe it is important to vote in local council elections, a survey of social attitudes in Scotland has revealed.

The latest Scottish Social Attitudes Survey of over 1000 people found that 95% of respondents believe it is important to vote in local council elections.

It also found that 98% and 92% respectively say it is important to vote in Scottish parliamentary and UK Government elections.

Nearly two thirds (64%) of respondents told the researchers that the Scottish parliament was giving Scotland a stronger voice in the UK and only 7% thought it was giving Scotland a weaker voice.

Around 64% of people think the level of taxation and spending on health, education and social benefits should be increased, according to the survey, while 32% believe the level of taxation and spending should stay the same.
