Residents across Greater Lincolnshire are being consulted on a devolution proposal for the region.

The proposed deal for a Greater Lincolnshire Mayoral Combined County Authority was confirmed by chancellor Jeremy Hunt in the Autumn Statement last month.

Under the deal, Greater Lincolnshire would receive an annual mayoral investment fund worth £720m over 30 years, £28.4m in one-off funding, control over its adult education budget from 2026 and a multi-year transport fund.

It would bring together Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and the region’s seven district councils.

Lincolnshire County Council leader Martin Hill said: ‘I hope that residents will take the time to understand what’s on offer and give their views as part of the consultation.’

‘This is our opportunity to take more decisions locally, boost our economy and have a direct line to government about what we need in our area.’

Following the eight-week consultation and an assessment of the results, a recommendation will be put to government.

If plans are approved, the first mayoral election would take place in May 2025.
