Kirklees MBC is expected to impose spending controls in a bid to stave off a section 114 notice.
Senior councillors will be asked to implement a series of cost-cutting measures to combat in-year overspending.
Kirklees is predicted to end the financial year with an overspend of £20m or 5% of its budget.
While this can be covered by the council’s reserves, it would leave just £2m of unallocated reserves left.
