Four historic gas lamps in central London are set to receive Grade II-listed status.
The Covent Garden lampposts were installed in 1910 to mark the beginning of King George V's reign.
It follows a move by Westminster City Council to convert 94 non-listed gas lamps to LEDs.
London Gasketeers, who campaign for the protection of historic working gas lamps, told the BBC the listing of the gas lamps provided a model for protecting the remaining non-listed lamps.
Historic England, which makes recommendations for listing to the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, said more listings of gas lamps were likely to follow.
