The child abuse scandal in Rotherham continues to cast a long shadow over the work of the council - even affecting its work to tackle last month’s flooding.
Assistant chief executive of Rotherham MBC, Shokat Lal, told The MJ's Future Forum North that it contributed to the authority being ‘too cautious’ on social media during the flooding, as the public would continually raise its past failings in tackling child sexual exploitation (CSE) in response to posts.
Mr Lal said: ‘Every road leads back to our failures, even when it’s got nothing to do with CSE.
‘For us, building trust is a long road.
