Unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) could be in danger of being exploited after the Illegal Migration Act created an incentive for them to run away.

Deputy speaker Sir Roger Gale announced in the House of Commons today that the much-criticised Illegal Migration Bill - central to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s pledge to ‘stop the boats’ crossing the English Channel - had become an Act of Parliament after being given Royal Assent.

Under the Act, UASC could be removed from the United Kingdom when they turned 18, sparking sector fears children could run away to avoid being detained when they officially become adults.
