Council stars in 'Housing Enforcers' TV show

The Housing Enforcers, a BBC TV series exposing rogue landlords and unruly tenants, heads to Broadland District Council in Norfolk in its new series this week.

The programme's producers worked with the council to secure access to housing officers working in the area.

In the daytime show, consumers' champion Matt Allwright joins council teams as a trainee housing officer to confront dodgy landlords, lazy tenants, nightmare neighbours and to rescue of those in need.

Mark Siddall, housing enforcement officer at Broadland District Council, who stars in the programmes said: 'I enjoy the role because I am interested in bricks and mortar and like the tangible result you get.

'You see people living in a home that formerly may have been empty for years and end up with nicer looking properties, which improve the district.'

Richard Block, head of housing and environmental services at Broadland District Council, added: 'I hope it will give our residents insight into the work our officers do on a daily basis and the innovative approaches we are taking.

'Getting empty homes back into use is key to meeting the council's ambition to provide well-housed communities.'

Broadland is in Norfolk and includes the northern suburbs of Norwich and the rural areas to the north and east of the city.

The Broadland-based programmes are airing today and tomorrow morning (May 6 and 7) at 9.15am on BBC One.
