Tewkesbury Borough Council is considering changing its name after communities said the current title is not representative of the wider area.
While the current name tends to be associated with Tewkesbury town, the Gloucestershire authority said it wanted to be more inclusive of the wider borough, which covers other large areas such as Brockworth, Bishop’s Cleeve, Winchcombe and Churchdown.
Several groups have suggested the name North Gloucestershire Borough Council, and residents have been invited to share their views on names as part of the authority’s Council Plan consultation.
Tewkesbury said the launch of its new Council Plan, alongside plans to change its ‘outdated’ logo, created a good opportunity to ‘modernise’ with a new name.
Costs would be minimal, with updates to physical signs carried out during normal maintenance, the council added.
