City of York Council looks set to formally endorse and join the West Yorkshire Combined Authority next week, creating a new body to manage £1.5bn investment in transport and economic infrastructure.
The council’s cabinet will be asked to approve the devolved transport fund on 3 December, enabling it to become a full member of the new combined authority.
Cllr James Alexander, leader of City of York Council, added: I have been working closely with colleagues in West Yorkshire of all political persuasions to make government devolution to us work for York. This government flagship policy is a big step forward that could see us access funding to see a major upgrade on Yorks outer ring road. We are putting aside political differences to make this work.’
The new partnership would include improvement schemes worth £83.5m over the next ten years for York such as a major upgrade of York’s outer ring road and the creation of the city’s first bus interchange.
