People have less than a week left to comment on the proposal to create a combined authority for the Liverpool city region.
The Government’s statutory consultation on the combined authority, which would cover the local authority areas of Knowsley, Liverpool, Halton, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral, closes on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for Knowsley MBC said: ‘Becoming a combined authority would not result in the formation of a super council.
‘It would mean improving strategic decision making in the areas of transport, housing, economic development and skills, and maximising funding opportunities from Government.
‘A combined authority for the Liverpool city region would help to grow the economy and jobs, which would be a great boost for the area.’
A review of strategic governance arrangements in the region carried out by the local authorities involved, local enterprise partnership and Merseytravel has already concluded that a combined authority is the preferred option.
