Scottish Labour have criticised a new budget deal that looks set to cut hundreds of millions of pounds of core funding to local government.
Labour argue the budget, which was made after a deal between the Scottish National Party and the Greens, will cause council charges to ‘soar’.
In SNP-run Dundee the cost of breakfast clubs could increase by 700% from £1.25 to £10 per school week, they warned.
In Moray, which is also run by the SNP, charging for the school bus is to be introduced with families set to be hit with a £370 per year charge per pupil.
Bottled water and cartons of milk could also be removed from lunch offers in SNP-run Falkirk, Labour said, while inflation busting increases to charges for child care and social care meals are being proposed.
‘The SNP-Green budget forces a £230m cut onto core council funding. That puts jobs on the line, services at risk and will see charges soar,’ said Labour’s shadow finance secretary, James Kelly.
The SNP and the Greens have been contacted.
