The leader of Plymouth City Council has said he is ‘shocked and saddened’ after six people were killed yesterday in a shooting incident.
Police were called to a serious firearms incident in Plymouth yesterday evening. Two females and two males were found dead at the scene. Another woman later died in hospital. All died of gunshot wounds.
A further male, believed to be the offender, was also found dead at the scene.
This was the worst mass shooting in Britain since 2010.
Commenting on the incident, Cllr Nick Kelly, leader of Plymouth City Council, said: ‘Today our city is mourning and my heart goes out to all those who are directly affected by this incident.
‘While we do not yet have all the details, we know that this is a harrowing tragedy that will have an impact not just on the victims’ families, but people living in this neighbourhood and the wider city.
‘I would like to pay special tribute to all our city’s emergency services, who responded to swiftly and professionally.
‘We are waiting for more detail from the police and so I do not wish to speculate on events, but know this - we are on hand to offer support.’
