A survey conducted by The MJ and BT has been referenced by local government minister, Rishi Sunak, when launching the new ‘digital innovation’ fund.
The £7.5m fund will allow key leaders from the sector to go through ‘a new world class digital leadership programme’.
Mr Sunak highlighted the survey, which found more than 80% of public sector chief executives see digital transformation as a ‘key priority’.
He said: 'A report from the MJ and BT last year found that more than 80% of public sector chief executives see digital transformation as one of their key priorities. That’s fantastic.
'But many feel that their organisations lack the skills and capability to take full advantage.
'So part of this money could be used to fund key leaders from the sector to go through a new world class digital leadership programme that we are in the process of creating.'
The MJ and BT survey of local authority managers, published last September, found 83% of respondents regarded digital transformation as among their top five priorities within their organisation.
Around 58% saw it as within their top three, and only 9% said they did not see it as a strategic priority at all.
