The implementation of a council’s planning blueprint will be delayed until next year after a judge agreed to grant campaigners an appeal hearing.
Suffolk Coastal DC said it was ‘disappointed’ and warned the decision to allow the Court of Appeal review of the council’s core strategy could delay ‘much-needed’ housing developments across the district.
The council’s cabinet member for planning, Cllr Geoff Holdcroft, said: ‘There is a clear need to have a policy framework in place to properly plan for the needed homes and jobs, and we will continue to strongly argue our position on this matter.
‘We are confident that we have the right strategy, with all the supporting evidence and processes properly undertaken, to deliver the 7,900 homes, including affordable homes, as well as the supporting jobs and infrastructure, to meet the needs of our district over the next 15 years.
‘It is also disappointing that it is unlikely the matter will be heard in the Court of Appeal until early 2015.
‘This delay will put more unnecessary pressures on the council when it is considering applications for housing developments across the district until this is fully resolved.’
